Thank You!

We had our best year ever, with over 10,000 people coming to our 2009 event! The hall was absolutely packed! We'd like to thank everyone that was part of the show, without you it wouldn't have been possible!

Stay tuned over the next while as we post some highlights. We'll also start working on our 2010 show (April 24 & 25, 2010) too!

 

Edward James Olmos!

And we thought we were done with adding more guests! Well...guess what? We've got one more! We have a very special appearance from Emmy Award winning & Academy Nominated actor Edward James Olmos!! We can't believe it either! Edward's best known as Admiral William Adama from the popular Battlestar Galactica series. He's also had memorable roles as Gaff in Blade Runner, Lt. Martin Castillo in Miami Vice, Jaime Escalante in Stand & Deliver, and the head of the Quintanilla family in the film Selena. Edward will also be participating in the BSG panel, and photo ops ($50)

Unfortunately Herb Trimpe had to cancel due to a family emergency.

James Kyson Lee will make a brief appearance on Sunday from 10am - 11am, and will be there all day on Saturday.

Last Minute Additions! Lois Lane & Dualla!

We've got a couple last minute additions to our guest lineup! We'll have appearances by Margot Kidder (Lois Lane from the Superman films) and Kandyse McClure (Battlestar Galactica's Lt. Anastasia Dualla). Kandyse will be participating in the photo ops with Tahmoh, so you'll have an opportunity to get a photo op with both celebrities at the same time (for an additional charge)! She'll also be in Saturday's BSG panel from 1pm - 2pm!

We are also adding a spotlight on Erika Eleniak panel on Saturday from 11:00am to 12:00pm in our Small Panel Room (A).

We'll have another voice acting panel featuring Yuri Lowenthal, Tara Platt, and Brad Swaile on Saturday from 11:00am to 12:00pm in our Workshop Room (B).

We've had some adjustments for our photo ops, our costs are different than initially announced. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused! Photo ops are $35 each, Sean Astin's photo op is $40, and a double shot with Tahmoh & Kandyse is $60. Also, Matthew Lewis' photo op time on Sunday has been moved to 2:45pm (instead of 4:15pm). If you've pre-purchased your photo op, you don't have to worry about the increase!

Ben Dunn will be leaving at 11:30am on Sunday, but will be appearing all day Saturday.

For you artists & sketch collectors, we'll have the Expo Engraved Sketchbook, a hardcover blank sketchbook for you to draw in, or collect sketches from the artists. Programming Announced!

We've got lots of programming scheduled in our panel rooms, where you can listen to your favorite special guests speak about a variety of topics. A couple of great features are our "Breaking into the Industry" series, where you can get an insight on getting into the industry. You'll hear industry pros talk about their experiences on working in comics, voice acting, gaming, and animation.

We'll also have spotlights on our media guests, and our 3 biggest events from last year, the Costume Contest, Ed & Red's Mini-Show and the 404s Improv Comedy. Ed & Red's mini show will feature lots of our guests in a talk show style type of event, and the ever popular 404s will entertain everyone with their amazing improv comedy.

Sunday is for Kids!

We'll have plenty of activities for kids on Sunday! Check it out in our Workshop Room B. We'll start with Illustrating Star Wars for Kids, hosted by Star Wars artist Amy Pronovost. Then we'll have a special presentation on Disney's latest animated film, Bolt, featuring Clay Kaytis and the voice of Rhino (that awesome hamster), Mark Walton. Finally, we'll have a Comics for Kids panel with Hero Bear creator Mike Kunkel. We'll also have a face painter at booth # 507. Swing on by with the kids for some great fun!

Voice actor Brad Swaile (Death Note, Gundam, X-Men Evolution), 501st Founder Albin Johnson, Top Cow artist Eric Basaldua, and Eisner Award winning artist Steve Rolston added to the lineup!

Bolt's Rhino, Cheeks & Baywatch Beauty

We've got some very special appearances from Disney Feature Animation. We have supervising animator Clay Kaytis, and storyboard artist Mark Walton. Mark also voices the lovable & hyperactive hamster Rhino in Disney's animated film, Bolt (just released on DVD)! They will be doing some special presentations and portfolio reviews! Plus we've got Sean "Cheeks" Galloway, character designer on Hellboy: Animated and Spectacular Spider-Man Animated. On top of all that, we also have an appearance from Baywatch beauty Erika Eleniak!

Local Creators Galore!

Don't miss your chance to see all the local talent displayed! Pure Pwnage, Ed the Sock & Liana K!

Stars from the popular mockumentary internet series Pure Pwnage returns! Jarett Cale (teh_pwnerer), Joel Gardiner (FPS Doug) and Geoff LaPaire (Kyle / teh_Masterer) will be at the Expo, and they'll be hosting a variety of game tournaments! Also returning are the lovable & beautiful Ed the Sock & Liana K.! They'll be involved with our costume contest, as well as hosting another Ed & Red mini-show with a bunch of our special guests!

 

LotR, Goonies, Rudy star Sean Astin!

Actor, director, and Academy Award-nominated producer Sean Astin will be appearing at the Calgary Expo. Sean's best known as Samwise Gamgee from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Mikey Walsh in The Goonies, Rudy Ruettiger in Rudy, and even guest starred as Lynn McGill in the fifth season of 24. Sean's extensive career inclusdes countless appearances in film and television, and even provided his voice for video games and animation.

Aragones, Procopio, Glines, the Soup Nazi!

We've added a few more guests to our lineup, starting with the world's fastest and award winning cartoonist Sergio Aragones. Sergio's work includes countless pieces for Mad Magazine as well as his creation of Groo the Wanderer. Artist, animator and sculptor Ruben Procopio has been an industry veteran for over 25 years, animating and sculpting projects for Walt Disney Feature Animation. He was trained by Eric Larson, one of Disney's legendary "Nine Old Men"! Artist Shane Glines was worked for Spumco, Warner Bros. and Cartoon Network, as well as covers for DC's Gotham Girls. We've got a special appearance from Larry Thomas, aka the infamous Soup Nazi from Seinfeld!

Anime Guests, Costume Contest, & More!

Yuri Lowenthal's got an incredible resume! He's got a cornicopia of voice credits in anime and video games. He's most well known for playing Naruto's Sasuke Uchiha, Iceman from Wolverine and the X-Men, Ben Tennyson from Ben 10: Alien Force, Superman from Legion of Super Heroes, the lead voice in Prince of Persia, even Frodo from the Lord of the Rings: Conquest video game. He's had appearances on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Gilmore Girls, and more!

Tara Platt voices Temari in Naruto, Wonder Woman in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, countless other video games and anime voice overs, and had appearances on Days of Our Lives, and Paradise Kiss.

Aaron Dismuke is best known as the voice of Alphonse Elric from the Fullmetal Alchemist series. He's also voiced characters such as Ion Fortuna from Trinity Blood, Young Akito from Fruits Basket, and Leon Elliott from Black Cat.

We've also got special performances by the fan favorite improv comedy groupt the 404s, and musical guests Thwomp!

Heroes' James Kyson Lee to Appear! Saturday Only!

Meet James Kyson Lee, or better known as Ando Masahashi the greatest sidekick from NBC's hit television series Heroes! James got his first acting gig on JAG, and hasn't looked back since. He's made appearances on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Akira's Hip Hop Shop, Las Vegas, and even voiced Shang Tsung in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe.

Firefly/Stargate's Jewel Staite to Appear!

Canadian beauty Jewel Staite won the hearts of many as the loveable Kaylee Frye in Firefly and Serenity, and is currently playing Dr. Jennifer Keller in Stargate: Atlantis. She also was Rebecca Fisher from Disney's Flash Forward, Catalina from Nickelodeon's Space Cases, and Heidi Gotts from Fox's Wonderfalls. Other appearances have included Higher Ground, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Da Vinci's Inquest, and more!

Ray Park Returns!

If you are lucky enough to land a role in a big budget action/sci-fi/comic movie, you're doing pretty good. Ray Park has 3! He's portrayed Darth Maul, one of the most popular villains in the Star Wars universe. He was also Toad in the X-Men movie...and he's playing the legendary Snake Eyes in the upcoming G.I Joe movie. We're really happy to have this "triple-threat" back in Calgary! Stay tuned for more guests soon!
